Meet a Member: Kyle McCormick





Kyle McCormick is a Manager in Enterprise Sales at Tableau. He joined us in DC for Busines & Bourbon Live, and reflects all the best traits of the B&B community! Learn more about his career journey in software sales!


Tell us about your education and background


I studied Business Management at Boston College with a focus in Computer Science and Marketing.


What was your first job?


I was a Business Development Representative selling customer experience software. I spent my days cold calling, emailing, and reaching out to people on LinkedIn.


Who is/was your mentor and what was the most important lesson you learned from them?


One mentor of mine was, Rick Tacelli, a strategic enterprise seller at my company. He really taught me the importance of building valuable relationships, both with the customers, you work with and internally at your company.

What piece of advice would you want to give colleagues?


I think it’s important to always have a growth mindset. Decide what skills you want to develop and start talking with people who excel in those skills, start consuming content related to those skills (books, podcasts, articles), and set clear goals to measure your growth.


What are you most proud of in your career?


I’ve wanted to move into leadership for a long time so becoming a manager was a big personal achievement for me.


If you could change anything in your industry, what would it be and why?


I think there’s still a lack of awareness about the opportunities within software sales. People with all different backgrounds and skillsets can build amazing careers in the industry. I believe it’s a path more people should know about and explore.


What lasting contribution do you hope to make to society/the professional world?


One thing I try to emphasize with my team is the importance of work/life balance. Especially as people have moved to virtual work, the line has become even more blurred. People need to make sure they take the time to invest in their health and well-being, not just their work. Hopefully, I can instill that mentality in people as often as possible.
