Over 40, it’s winning time

I’m speaking to my 40+ crowd. You need to read this. If you’re over 40, read this now.

Mark Zuckerburg was 19 when he launched Facebook and was a billionaire at 23.

Bill Gates was 19 when he started Microsoft and was a billionaire at 31.

Elon Musk was 24 when he launched Zip2. At 31, he was worth a billion.

These are the stories of EntrepreneurPorn we’ve all grown up with. It’s poisoned your mind into believing that success in entrepreneurship is reserved for those with youthful ambition and that the window to your success closes the older you get.

That’s BS; moreover, it’s just factually untrue.

“Research from MIT and Northwestern University highlights how not only is this discriminatory, but is also foolish, as older entrepreneurs can often be more successful than their younger peers. ... What's more, a 50-year-old entrepreneur was 1.8 times more likely to achieve high growth than a founder in their 30s.”

Forbes- Adi Gaskell

I was pretty successful in the first part of my career. I created companies, jobs and stacked a bunch of accolades.

Many of you have done the same thing and now you’re looking in the rearview mirror at those accomplishments.

You’re reminiscing the good old days as though your best successes are behind you.

I know that I’m poised for success and achievements beyond anything I’ve done in the past. I'm about to create something bigger than I ever have.

Why?

The knowledge I’ve accumulated, the wisdom I have now that I didn’t have 15 years ago, puts me at an advantage just like it does for you.

Now here’s the rub though…

You have to tap into that youthful ambition. Challenge what you think to be true. Use your wisdom but also be willing to unlearn and keep growing.

Be courageous.

That’s the reason, in my opinion, 50+-year-old entrepreneurs are more successful. They leverage their experience and wisdom but don’t let their age be an excuse for why they can’t do something.

Be courageous and inspired by your younger counterparts but leverage your wisdom and experience to win.
